CHIAKI NANAMI: It's fine if you don't know. What matters is that you hold on to the feeling that you have to do your best. So...let's do our best.
APP HMD MONK LUCY

Player Name: Lucy
Age: 29
Contact: [plurk.com profile] lucylovespluto
Timezone: EST
Other character currently in game: n/a

Character name: Chiaki Nanami
Age: 17 mentally/emotionally. Chronologically it's one big ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ because the Danganronpa timeline enjoys being inscrutable. She falls under the "robot" clause, since she's a therapeutic AI created by the SHSL Programmer & SHSL Therapist in their school days, making her chronologically probably somewhere between two and five but again Who Knows. She was intended to be of age with her classmates who are all 16/17, so.
Canon: Super Danganronpa 2
Canon point: Post-death.
History: Wiki link

Three key adjectives: Kind, determined, patient

Influential Events:
✘ Being booted up as "Chiaki Nanami, SHSL Gamer" was of course a crucial step in Chiaki's life. In her "base" state she's a therapy AI programmed to take on the form that would be most beneficial to those put into the New World Program. In Chiaki's case her persona comes from the memories of the "real" Chiaki Nanami, who died in her classmates' school years. While she's based on the true SHSL Gamer and shares many personality traits with her, Chiaki has her own unique personality traits as well, and is a separate entity. However, being booted as Chiaki Nanami gave her a name, a base to build off of, and a voice. It shaped who she is and will be, and admittedly the video game thing gives her an easier way to try to relate to others and to speak her mind. Her base cues come from a mixture of her programming (help others!) and what was loaded to her about Chiaki (video games!) and form an entirely new creation.

✘ While the island program being taken over by Monokuma was significant (as it included her sister getting beat up and claimed as a sister by Monokuma), the "true" start of the island despair was the first murder - the first murder Chiaki had ever dealt with. When Twogami was murdered she felt the first taste of the despair that was to come, and she did exactly as could be expected of her: she did her best to help her classmates and push them forward despite how difficult it was and she was a crucial part of solving that first case and many others. It was a fairly character defining trial for all of them, as 80% of the SDR2 students are...easily distracted? Gundam spent the entire investigation looking for his earring, and so on. But Chiaki was focused on solving the murder and helping her classmates, and she remained so for every following investigation and trial.

✘ While it seems sort of small to others, one of her Free Time Events with Hinata involves talking about touching cows (and actually doing so) and how warm they are and how tame. While the cows were of course computer programs, speaking with Hinata about ordinary things like holidays she didn't know or how cows feel and the like were important to Chiaki herself. Hinata is the student she was closest with and whom she learned the most from on the island. He treated her like an ordinary girl and while none of them knew she was the traitor until her death, that was important to her. Beyond just helping the others because of her programming, Chiaki came to truly regard them all as her dear friends.

✘ Her death in trial five involved Komaeda relying on his luck to get the traitor to kill him via surprise russian roulette bombs (which they thought would put out a fire, but fuck komaeda??), so it was far and away the "least guilty murderer" case. Chiaki would never actually kill someone of her own free will, so being tricked into it along with everyone else was the only way she could do so. When she figured out that he'd relied on his luck to trap the "traitor" (actually to SAVE the traitor by having them escape the game after murdering everyone else, but Chiaki didn't go with that) she immediately forced the others to reason out who the traitor was - i.e. her. It's disingenuous to say she could have done otherwise, as her programming caused her to want to help and protect the others, but it's also true that Chiaki herself wanted them to succeed and stay safe. By that point they had all gone through so much together and while it was painful and she didn't really want to die, she wanted them all to live and win so much more than that. Even her door message implies this - door messages being last thoughts that appear after executions on the murderers and victim's doors: "upup0'&'&downdown*+==^^leftrightleftrightabstart:(sorry&'fguys*&)don't&lose<". While it truly wasn't her fault, she felt sorry for what she had to make them do but even so her very final thought was "don't lose". More than she wanted to live, more than she wanted her sister to live, Chiaki wanted her friends to succeed and escape the killing game. To that end she went to her death with as much dignity as she could muster.

Chosen path: Monk
3 Abilities: Purity of Body, Tranquility, Shadow Step. Note: I'm not taking Video Games as a talent solely because I believe her video game skills are perfectly in keeping with anyone who spends 99% of their time playing games (i.e. she'd be comparable with gamers from other canons) and she isn't the "true" SHSL Gamer anyway - just a computer program trying to relate to a bunch of teens via video games.
Why this path?: First of all, Chiaki would find the path fun and choose it herself. Second of all, "Tranquility" is genuinely the path action that best suits her across all paths. Chiaki is generally the calmest of the SDR2s and will gently ask people to calm the hell down in the kindest way possible.
