first game; VIDEO. action for new bark i guess but who is even in new bark right now?
[ It takes her no time at all to figure out how to work the gear. Nanami is good with electronics, especially the handheld sort that hold games on them (and she did look at the games that came preloaded first off, and then wasted some of her starter cash on one or two of the others...) so it was easy.
...Except that after she finished playing around with that, Nanami spent several days trying to play the game. As in "Pokémon". She eventually gives this up, but it admittedly takes a while. After turning on the video function, she pauses. Takes a moment to collect her thoughts. This is accomplished by staring off into space before refocusing. ]
...Hello. My name is Nanami Chiaki. I’m a Super High-school Level Gamer. ...I'm pretty good with all genres.
[ That's the unimportant stuff. Moving on to the stuff that actually matters: ]
...Although this is certainly "Pokémon", it's a sequel or something, right? New locations, new creatures...even so, there are so many differences compared to that game, aren't there? Almost too many...
[ She puffs out her cheeks, a silent pout, before continuing past her pause. ]
...I started out with a partner already, without having to visit the Professor. There was no point where I was supposed to choose my partner...or my gender, or name, although I don't mind that. ...While I like Munna, that's a little weird, isn't it? And even if the plot is different in this game, which is normal...
I haven't been able to trigger any quests so far, you know? Or tutorials. ...Maybe that ferry to Kanto would be the right choice, but couldn't that be a case of skipping ahead to the boss area without being properly leveled? That I haven't even had a rival encounter, isn't that worrying?
[ Nanami falls silent for a second before her main concern comes out, said more quietly than the rest, though she hadn't been speaking loudly to start with. ]
...It's not working properly.
[ That's...that's apparently all she wanted to bring up...? Trapped in the world of Pokémon, her main concern is apparently that the game is wrong. Where are the quests she knows she ought to be having, or the characters she ought to be meeting? Perhaps it's best to leave her to it...Ah, no, wait. It appears she has a bit more to say. ]
...If there's a new sequence to trigger the main quest, I'd like to know that, please. I'll keep trying to find it in the meantime. ...Ah, it's hard to trigger secret codes if you're in the game itself, isn't it...? At least, the normal codes are a no-go. I'll have to think of something else.
[ ...never mind, this is absolutely the time to leave her to her thoughts. Nanami ends the video after another pause, undoubtedly going off to try to "start" her game once again. ]

Another one! Talking to her.
...Just give her a minute to calm down, this is unprecedented. That's...definitely that guy, right? She's played this game. ]
...My card says I'm a trainer. So...there isn't a storyline here...?
[ Bummer. Although the perks apparently outweigh the, you know, not perks. ]

Don't get stuck in Violet City, though. You won't ever get to leave.
[truer words have never been spoken]
I'm Shaun. It's nice to meet you, Miss...um. Chiaki?
[he sounds uncertain. It's polite to call someone by their last name, right? But Japanese names still sound the same to him so he can't tell whether she said it in Western order or not.
...He thinks she's Japanese, anyway.]
no subject
Should she have him call her that...? He's a kid, so it might be okay. ]
...You can call me Nanami, if you want.
[ But about that... ]
Violet City...why is that? Does the plot hit there?
no subject
And that answer doesn't help with him telling whether it's her first or last name.]
Okay, Miss Nanami.
And, uh, no. In fact, that's kind of the problem. It's the first city on the gym circuit, so a lot of people end up staying there a really long time until they get their badges, and then they just sort of don't leave for a while.
It's easy to get stuck there doing a lot of nothing.
no subject
Though part of it is elation to be talking to this kid. ]
...So it's a place where people level-grind a lot. I see.
[ She will avoid this trap. ]
no subject
Goldenrod City is too. I've been there for a few months.
I'm getting ready to leave, though. I can come meet you and we can travel together!
[It's not that weird to an 11-year-old.
Besides, he just lost his guardian.]
no subject
...I'll have to see what's going on with my upperclassmen first.
[ Mostly because she's figuring out what the hell is going on there. ]
Also...sequence-breaking, for badge collecting...isn't that usually bad?
no subject
I've got the first and third badges because we didn't go to Azalea Town.
[Of course most of his team is level 100, but.]
Upperclassmen? You mean like from school?
no subject
[ And she nods. ]
"Hope's Peak Academy". There seem to be...a lot of them here.
no subject
...I had to challenge Falkner twice.
Some of my friends have a bunch of classmates here! I dunno what school they go to.
no subject
[ Some of his friends, huh? ]
...You like it here.
no subject
I do like it here! I've been here almost a whole year!
no subject
[ As long as Kirby learns some decent moves on the way there, at least. ]
...I'm glad. You look really happy.
[ You deserve it, kid. Your game was mean to you. ]
no subject
[you know, totally choked the first time.]
Thanks.
[Wait til you find out what ending he's from.]
So you play video games a lot?
no subject
Nanami nods. ]
I play games as often as I can. If I didn't, wouldn't that be a waste? ...Although none of my games came here with me, I bought some on my gear.
[ using like all her starter cash. so. ]
no subject
That's really cool. I used to want to design video games when I grew up. I never really got to play a lot of them but I think they're super fun.
What games did you buy? I have Rainbow Rapidash Attack and Poketris.
1/2
2/2
[ Let's move on, now. ]
That's a really cool dream. Oh, also - I'm going to be heading to Violet for the first badge. Since...you don't like that place, I understand if you aren't interested in going that way.
no subject
That's the same tone of voice he has when someone talks to him about the rain, so...he's gonna move on now.]
You are? I mean, I figure that's where a lot of people go first. Unless they go to Kanto.
If you want, I can lend you a pokemon to make the ride faster. It goes a lot quicker that way!
And then I can take him back when I come meet you in Violet.
no subject
...It'd just be mean. ]
...Really? If you don't mind being in Violet...then I'd like that a lot, Shaun-kun.
no subject
[He smiles, a little brighter now because this girl called him Shaun-kun. And the other girl said that was a sign of respect.]
I'll send you my Rapidash, okay? He's kind of a handful, but he means well. His name's El Caliente.
[He'd send you his Charizard but you don't have the badge needed to use Fly.]
He belonged to a friend of mine, but... Norman left.
no subject
That would be...really nice of you. Ah, and this sort of thing is what happens in games, too. A travel party is important, right? Though if we're white or black mages or fighters remains to be seen.
no subject
Um... [He smiles sheepishly.] I dunno about that stuff. [He hasn't played much video games since he was 8, aside from web games and typing games at school.]
But it's less lonely to travel with people! I mean, just being with your team is nice and stuff, but it's nice to have someone you can talk to in human language, too.
Is there a PC in New Bark Town? [It's been a while since he was there.
no subject
...Which of them is the one who needs looking after, again? ]
Ah, there is! I explored this level really thoroughly.
[ ...So it's safe to say she went into every place she could get into.
Nanami, you can't just walk into people's houses... ]
I think...I also like travelling with people, although sometimes it's a little hard.
no subject
They can even give some to the puppies if they ever need hours of entertainment.]
Awesome! I'll send Cali over to you, then. It's a good thing trading doesn't work exactly like it does in the games.
...You mean like knowing who you can trust? Yeah, I feel that way too.
[Shaun Mars? Trust issues? Surprise!]
