[ It takes her no time at all to figure out how to work the gear. Nanami is good with electronics, especially the handheld sort that hold games on them (and she did look at the games that came preloaded first off, and then wasted some of her starter cash on one or two of the others...) so it was easy.

...Except that after she finished playing around with that, Nanami spent several days trying to play the game. As in "Pokémon". She eventually gives this up, but it admittedly takes a while. After turning on the video function, she pauses. Takes a moment to collect her thoughts. This is accomplished by staring off into space before refocusing. ]

And even if the plot is different in this game, which is normal...

I haven't been able to trigger any quests so far, you know? Or tutorials. ...Maybe that ferry to Kanto would be the right choice, but couldn't that be a case of skipping ahead to the boss area without being properly leveled? That I haven't even had a rival encounter, isn't that worrying?

[ Nanami falls silent for a second before her main concern comes out, said more quietly than the rest, though she hadn't been speaking loudly to start with. ]

[ That's...that's apparently all she wanted to bring up...? Trapped in the world of Pokémon, her main concern is apparently that the game is wrong. Where are the quests she knows she ought to be having, or the characters she ought to be meeting? Perhaps it's best to leave her to it...Ah, no, wait. It appears she has a bit more to say. ]

...If there's a new sequence to trigger the main quest, I'd like to know that, please. I'll keep trying to find it in the meantime. ...Ah, it's hard to trigger secret codes if you're in the game itself, isn't it...? At least, the normal codes are a no-go. I'll have to think of something else.

[ ...never mind, this is absolutely the time to leave her to her thoughts. Nanami ends the video after another pause, undoubtedly going off to try to "start" her game once again. ]

Well, from what I've gathered you don't really need to wait around for any of 'em to give you the whole speech about this place. Most people just head out toward Violet City immediately.

...I got told to go there, so I'm going there. Also, that's the first badge location, right? I have to get all of the badges before my rival. That's an absolute must.

Yeah, Violet's a nice town. We stayed there for awhile when we first showed up. Goldenrod's the biggest city though, so you should eventually make your way over here. Oh, but you'll have to hit Azalea for the second badge first.

No, not really. I mean, there are some people I can't really stand, but I don't have a rival, exactly. Who's your rival? Someone from your class?

Well, Falkner's the first Gym Leader and he's got Flying-types, so you might wanna take that into consideration. Since you've played the games, I guess you'd be pretty good at figuring out what to do against him, right?

Yes. Kirigiri-senpai's starter is the opposite, so it has to be destiny, right? That's how this kind of game goes.

Competing to get the badges is one of the best parts of the game, right? To try to beat that person there, and to have those battles at times when it's unexpected or expected...so that you train yourself and become the best trainer you can be.

...If it's a flying type, electric, rock, or ice would be best. Of those...I don't have any right now, but I'll catch one.

The breeding centre...? I think someone mentioned it, but...I haven't had a chance to look there yet. You're right, though...it'd be best to try to get one of the three super-effective against flying types from there...

...Honestly, I've never traveled before, really. Since it's part of the game, though, it should be okay, right?

Travelling can be kinda hard. I mean, shit, I never traveled much on foot before I got here, but there isn't much in the way of transportation here. So you're basically stuck walking from one town to the next. The routes can be kinda rough, 'specially now that it's cold. Getting something you can ride on'll definitely help! Shaun should be able to help you out with that while you're travelling with him!

...the spirit of the games, it's very much intact. And those games...were very nice places to go. While there were things like Team Rocket and the like, even those "bad things" weren't that bad. They were...always the sort of things that friendship and trust could overcome.
